When I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation, Illustration, and English, I had to ask myself the same question I'd been asked on my way into college: What do I want to do? And somehow, the answer was still just as difficult. The world still seemed just as vast and confusing as it had before I'd racked up a skyscraper of tuition bills, only now, I had skills, training, and a piece of paper stating that I'd committed myself (at least for four years) to an academic subject.
As I explored the "real world" of employment, it became more and more apparent to me that there just didn't seem to be a "job" that did any justice to my wide range of talents, values, and passions. And that was when I remembered... I already am "what I wanted to be when I grew up," an artist, a dreamer, a creator. I believe that life is not about heading for a destination, but about continuously learning, growing, and creating. And what better way to learn, grow, and create than by connecting with other learning, growing creators and exchanging lessons, skills, and creations? We live in a time in which our true purpose is not necessarily to fit into the pegboard that's already full and doesn't fit our shapes, but to carve out a new path based on what the world needs today, which is exactly what each of our unique gifts has to offer! |
